Homeopathic Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Guest Post Written by Dr. Navneet Bidani (The Author)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been an officially recognized illness since 1980 and it may be defined as the development of significant anxiety, fear, helplessness and horror after exposure (experienced or witness) to trauma, defined as an event associated with either actual or threatened death or injury to oneself or another. Individuals experience associated symptoms of detachment and loss of emotional responsivity. The patient may feel de-personalized and unable to recall specific aspects of the trauma, though typically it is re-experienced through intrusions in thoughts, dreams, or flashbacks, particularly when cues of the original event are present.

The first meta analysis of a medical treatment was published in 1955. The first meta analysis in evidence of homeopathy was published in 1991.

Upto the end of year 2010, there have been 11 meta-analysis and 8 systematic reviews including 1 cochrane review (out of approximately 20 systematic reviews published) published in 14 peer-reviewed medical journals in evidence of homeopathy.

Out of 11 meta analysis, 5 are comprehensive, 5 on specific medical condition and 1 on super-avogadro dilution effect. These 19 studies are part of the total 270 human studies in evidence of homeopathy upto the end of 2010.

Scientific plausible mechanism of action of ‘potentised high dilutions’ in homeopathy

How ‘super-avogadro dilutions’ in homeopathy stimulate the biological activity and restore the homeostatic mechanism?

All system of medicines are prepared and administered in doses whose ingredients can be quantified to be below Avogadro limit except homeopathic medicine which is available in both below (hormetic) as well as above [Beyond the Reciprocal of Avogadro Number (BRAN), also known as avogram) avogadro limit.

The probability of finding one molecule of the n molecules of the original substance above avogadro limit is extremely small, but not zero. ‘Super-Avogadro’s dilutions’ [15]/’potentised high dilutions’ [12] are aqueous solutions diluted above avogadro limit.

The word “pharmakon” translated as ‘drug’ and meaning both ‘remedy’ and ‘poison’. Pharmacopoeia is an official book published by the government containing list of medicines with information about sources, description, identification, preparation and standardisation.

Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India has documented 4400 drugs. India also recognises British Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of United States and German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia.

Arndt-Schultz law (now called as Hormesis)

This pharmacological law is about non-linearity between dose and response. It states that, “weak stimuli slightly accelerate the vital activity, medium-strong stimuli raise it, strong ones suppress it and very strong ones halt it”.

Lives saved by Homeopathy in Epidemics and Pandemics

Guest Post Written by Iman Navab (The Author)
Both Epidemic and Pandemic refers to the spread of infectious diseases among a population. The term pandemic indicates a far higher number of people affected in much larger geographical area than epidemic. Mortality rate is number of deaths per 1000 individuals per year. Genus epidemicus means that the treatment protocol of an epidemic disease is designed based on the collected signs and symptoms of a large group of patients in the same geographical area.
Homeopathy has been a boon to the patients of scarlet fever, typhus fever, yellow fever, Pneumonia, Cholera, Influenza, Hepatitis, Dengue, Leptospirosis and Conjunctivitis during the times of pandemics and epidemics.

Obesity and Homeopathy

Guest Post Written by Dr. Sayeed Ahmad…
Weight bears the relationship with age, sex and bone structure. An excess of 50 calories per day can increase about 25 Kilograms (Kgs) in a period of ten years.
It is estimated that an active person will burn about 12-13 calories a day per pound of body weight. Therefore, a person having weight 140 pounds will need roughly 1700-1800 calories a day to maintain that weight, and less to reduce it.
It may therefore be suggested to an obese adult to stick to his daily diet providing 1300 KiloCalorie (Kcal) which may help in reducing about 0.5 – 1 Kg a week.

Breathing Difficulties and Homeopathy

She was obese like Calcarea, her eyes were smiling and hopeful like Phosphorus, she had puffed upper eyelids like Kali Carb and also slight bags under the lower eyelids like Apis M…. I smiled back, unlike the other patients around her, she was ready to laugh at any joke, I felt so happy with her and said,”  When do you want to leave this ward ?”,  she almost laughed at it .. alas the windpipe did not allow the vocal chords to produce a sound……

The homeopathic therapeutic relationship – a patient-centered union

The practitioner has to be there, qualitatively, with the patient   in the consultation [6-8]. This he may express by being empathic and understanding towards the patient [7]. A form of mutual trust [4] of practitioner and patient aids in abolishing discomfort and may provide security in the therapeutic union. This trust may be further deepened by the practitioners’ expression of acceptance and non-judgement towards the patient and his case.

No more Tension on Hypertension

Guest Post Written by Dr. Muhammed Rafeeque
In common usage, many people consider some normal body functions and even the name of some organs as diseases. For example: Blood Pressure (BP), Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate(ESR), Blood sugar, Cholesterol, Thyroid, Gastric, etc. are considered as names of diseases. You might have noticed even educated patients saying, “Doctor, I have Thyroid, BP and ESR”.
Hypertension is not a disease, but a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the artery is elevated. Initially, high BP was found among middle aged, but unfortunately, nowadays, even the youngsters are affected.
In order to get the accurate BP, it should not be checked immediately after food, exercise, coffee, drinks, smoking, mental stress, etc. The subject should take adequate rest for at least 5 minutes before checking. While checking, the cuff and the apparatus should be at same level of the heart of the subject. The handcuff should not be too tight or too loose (It should allow only one finger)

Medicine and The Placebo Effect

I think we are all aware of the idea of what a placebo is and what the placebo effect must therefore be, but, when you stop and think about the manipulation of reality that the blanket term “placebo” covers, you have to reconsider both what the term means and what the implication of its existence
